Bulawayo City consults Cultural sector at Bluez Café
On Wednesday 1 Oct 2017 from 10am to 12 midday, the Bulawayo Cultural Affairs Office (BCAO) of the City of Bulawayo held a consultative meeting with stakeholders in the Cultural sector, at Bluez Café on Lobengula St cnr 8th Ave Ext.
Stakeholders were invited to learn more about the Bulawayo Cultural Affairs Office and also contribute to the shaping of the BCAO programme going forward.
In 2015, the City of Bulawayo signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Nhimbe Trust, for technical cooperation in the setting up and running of the Bulawayo Cultural Affairs Office; as a way of contributing to government’s efforts towards the building of a viable arts, culture and heritage sector as espoused in the new national cultural policy adopted in 2016.
The BCAO engaged a full-time Cultural Affairs Officer, Nkululeko Nkala, to coordinate the City’s efforts to developing and implementing Bulawayo’s arts, culture and heritage programme of action, informed and guided by the national arts, culture and heritage policy. “We invite the stakeholders to let us know what your wishes are for the Office” said Nkala, who is assisted by intern Sithabile Ndubiwa.
Uppermost, the BCAO regard the promotion of cultural/creative industries as the most critical, rewarding and impacting action possible, in order to ensure that the arts, culture and heritage sector grows to become a major source of employment creation and revenue generation.
